"we need to talk."

disjunctively, they are normal words. but, when combined, they can strike fear into the heart of a girl. something moves deep within your stomach and you know something bad is waiting for you just around the bend. you try playing dumb and tell yourself that it's not as bad as it seems, but you are secretly dreading the words that you know are about to come from his mouth. what you fear the most is about to transpire, and there's nothing you can do...

it's times like these when true friendships are tested and lasting bonds are made: being there for a friend when she's at her lowest point and showing her that there is hope. it's not the most fun time and it's almost never anticipated, but it's in these moments that love and friendship shine the brightest. when she's in pain, you feel it. when she's angry, you talk smack. when she cries, you cry. it's not an obligation, it's something motivated by love.

it a somewhat related story, i slipped in a water puddle inside the ghetto H-E-B tonight while on a mission to acquire comfort food. the right knee, being it's tricky self, popped out and left me straddling the banana rack. i'm sure all who witnessed my awkwardness were duly amused. i limped to the check out counter and out of that super market of shame as fast as i could hobble.

Baylor v. TCWHO? tomorrow... i am so freakin excited.

lyddie.

ps: i'm beginning to believe that xanga is dead, yet i am afraid to enter the world of myspace. i already have one ugly online addiction... adding one more is just asking for trouble.

FOR MEGS!

since apparently i didn't write enough xanga entries this summer to tide over my baylor bestie/ roomate MEGAN JULIA JA-NICKY, i will now dedicate this post, and this stirring poem, to her:

her name is megan... she is my friend.

she lives in my house... on the opposite end.

if she would ask me... to her i would send.

all of my love... to the bitter end.

to all others... i do not mean to offend.

but i have the wings... and she is the wind.

when i am down... on her i can depend.

to cheer me up...  and my heart to mend.

when it seems... you have reached a dead end.

i will be a high powered attorney... and you i will defend.

before all time... before a novel was penned.

it was written in the stars... that you i would befriend.

you are my quaterback... i am your tight end.

if you needed a dollar... four quarters i would extend.

and if we could meet Gilmores... only with you i would attend.

if you were in a fight... my fist i would extend.

to save your life... and your rear end.

for i do believe... that the good Lord did intend.

for us to be sisters... and the closest of friends!

I LOVE YOU GIRL!

lyddie "billy shakespeare wannabe" rogers

(if you wish me to write a stirring poem about you or someone you know, i will do so for a most reasonable price, to be disclosed upon request.)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perserverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.  --Hebrews 12:1-3

Wow. What amazing verses. I just pray that all the incoming freshman take these words to heart as much as I have.

Participating in Welcome Week from a leadership standpoint has been a great experience. Working with these new freshman really moves me, probably because I had such a rough time of it this time last year. Yes, it has been tiring. Yes, I had to help haul a fridge up 5 flights of stairs moving girls into Collins. Yes, I can't remember the last time I only took 1 shower a day. It is all worth it.

Being back at Baylor is amazing. Hoping everyone is finding their return to school just as fun and rewarding!

lots of love, lyddie

To all the creepy/old/drunken/all of the above men out there:

Today, or rather, tonight, I am here to make a stand. I may hold the door open for you as you enter and/or exit my place of employment, you creepy/old/drunken/all of the above man, but this does NOT give you the right to touch/feel me as you do so! I may be good at blending in to my surroundings, but alas, I am not a chameleon, nor I am not part of the door/building. Therefore, hands off! I am simply a girl trying to do her job. Me smiling at you is not an open invitation. I am being cordial. Take heed! The following behavior is unacceptable, in ALL instances:

  • grasping my shoulders
  • patting my cheek
  • playfully poking my side
  • holding my hand that is propping the door open
  • asking my marital status (not touching, but still reprehensible!)
  • and most of all, stroking my black choker as you walk by, WITHOUT SAYING A WORD

All of the above are not cool. I like my job. I like the people I work with. BUT ENOUGH ALREADY, you creepy/old/drunken/all of the above man! Have a little respect! I am trying as hard as I possibly can to be professional, and you are making things VERY difficult.

sincerely,

a  woman who has had enough.
